Back Elbows

Back elbows (Sok Kratung)  include those that use the back portion of the elbow (the portion of the elbow closer to the shoulder). 

1) Diagonally Down - Elbow thrown in a downward angle. Not as common as most of the other elbows.  
2) Diagonally Up - Elbow thrown in an upward angle. Video A tricky elbow most commonly seen in Muay Thai. Perhaps the most famous example of its use in MMA was by Anderson Silva vs Tony Fryklund. Video
3) Horizontal - Elbow thrown horizontally. Video
4) Vertically Down -(Tomahawk Elbow) - Video

Front Elbow Strikes

Front Elbow Strikes include elbows that use the front of the elbow (the area of the elbow closer to the forearm). 

1) Diagonally Down - (Sok Tee/Cutting Elbow) - Elbow starts above the shoulder line and slashes in a downward angle. Video
2) Diagonally Up - Elbow thrown in an upward angle. Video
3) Horizontal - (Sok Tad) - Elbow thrown horizontally. Video
4) Vertical Up - (Sok Ngad/Uppercut Elbow) - Elbow thrown vertically up. Video  Can also be thrown with more of a forward motion as a spear elbow Video

Core Striking Combinations and Tricking Attacks (Firas Zahabi)

DOUBLE JAB CREATING MOVEMENT
-Guard - Thumbs above the eye brows
-Chin below the shoulder

JAB JAB CROSS @3:29

JAB, SLAP HOOK, LOW KICK @4:38
-When throwing the rear low kick, extend the right arm to defend against possible punch from opp. Cross block version of this is elbow up, thumb down.
-Level change when throwing the kick

LEAD SIDE DOUBLE KICK @8:50
-Pendulum step for first low kick to inside of opp. leg. Switch step for second kick to opp. head.
-When throwing the lead kick, left arm extends to defend against possible punch from opp.

POWER SIDE DOUBLE KICK @12:19
-Fake the first kick by lifting your rear leg. Opp. lifts leg to check your kick. Stutter step in and kick the opp. supporting leg.
-Used when you know opp. is likely to block the first kick

POWER SIDE TEEP SUPERMAN PUNCH @16:10
-Fake rear teep to superman punch
-Also goes over the fake jab to superman

LONG GUARD @21:19
-blocking rear overhand using long guard. Checking the bicep or shoulder. The extended arm is elbow up and palm outward.


LONG GUARD VS HOOK @24:17
-The lead arm checks the opp. lead hook at the shoulder or bicep with the palm of the hand. The rear hook is handled like the cross.

-Basically the jab, cross using the push step.
-Goes over hitting to the body with a lead hook if the opp. defends by covering against the first two punches.
