Notes: Attacking the Guard (Gordon Ryan)

 Vol. 1

Introduction
3 Types of Guard Passing/Attacking
1) Tight Passing
2) Loose Passing
3) Submissions 

Goals 
1) Pin opp shoulders and head to the floor (by getting to an upper body position).
2) Creating back exposure (putting pressure on opp that they turtle exposing's back)
3) Expose limbs (putting pressure on opp that they push you away, exposing's limbs)
4) Get opp knees and feet pointing away from you.

Standing Pass Foot Positions
1) Inside foot (your foot steps in between opp legs.
a) Inside straight hamstring 
b) Inside cross hamstring
2) Outside foot (your foot steps to outside of opp leg

After stepping in, opp will try to establish some sort of guard like de Riva to which you can counter using either an early defense or late defense

Opening Closed Guard
 
Standing Pass
1) Establish hand on biceps or c-grp on armpits. 
2) Either Step up or pop up. 
3) Immediately straighten up into vertical posture. 
If opp grabs both ankles:
4) Right hand to her knee. Left hand over right. Head moves away, over opp opposite knee as you push on knee and shake.
5) Immediately do leg kick with your right leg to free it and step back. 
6) Immediately push her right knee down with left hand. 
You are now in inside foot straight hamstring position. 

If opp hooks inside of your left leg to waiter sweep:
4) Turn left knee in toward opp head
5) Verticle posture, and push on knee to open guard. Step back with right leg when opp legs open.
6) Push her right knee down.
You are now in inside foot position. 

Double ankle grab sweep counter
Option 1
1) Squeeze knees together, layback and lift your hips up.
2) Grab both her ankles, lifting up. Keep grip on her left ankle with your right hand, and do a technical standup. Once on your feet, again grab other ankle and push them both to the floor above her head.

Option 2
1) Squeeze knees together, layback and lift your hips up.
2) Do some sort of leg attack.

Option 3
1) Squeeze knees together, layback and lift your hips up.
2) Move both of her legs to your right and under your right arm as you start to sit up, posting on your left hand. Do small tech standup to free your left foot. Move her legs to side with your body moving to a side control position.

Opening Rubber Guard @34:00
1) Hands to the floor. Pop up, positioning your head over opp. Turn your arms so that your thumbs are on the floor pointing behind you. Relax your arms and lift and shake your body upward.

Establishing Inside Foot (opp seated guard)
Option 1: Stepping Outside
1) Take a small step to the left with left foot. 
2) Take a big step to the left with your right foot past opp. hip line. 
3) Take another small step with left foot. Opp follows you, turning her legs toward you. 
4) Step the right foot between her legs establishing an inside foot position.

Option 2: Shoulder Push, Head Pull
1) C-grip on her shoulder with your right hand and push her as if trying to push her back to the ground. (if she goes to her back just step in between her legs)
2) When she pushes into you, you switch to a collar tie and pull her head down so there is now weigh in her feet. Step in between her legs.

Option 3: Lift Opp Leg
1) Again push her shoulder with your right hand. Grab and lift her right ankle with your left  hand. 
(If she goes to her back-place your hands on her shins and step in)
(If she post her right hand behind-drive her back and step in)


Rolling Kimura Against Seated Opp. @41:40
Kimura 1
1) Your right hand pushes opp. left shoulder, forcing her to her left and to post on her right hand. 
2) Your left hand does to floor, your right hand hooks under her arm and you roll into Kimura.
